About

St. Matthew’s Primary School

St. Matthew’s Primary School is a large school in heart of the High Town area of Luton.

In September 2006 the former St. Matthew’s Infant and St. Matthew’s Junior schools merged to become one primary school.  At that time there were three classes in each year group.

From September 2009, the school will begin to grow until all year groups have four classes, each with a maximum of 30 pupils creating a school with a potential of 840 places.

The only year group that will have four classes in September 2009 will be our Foundation Stage. The increase to the year groups will take place over the next seven years from Year 1 to Year 6 until all year groups have four classes.

September 2009

Foundation Stage: Ducklings, Hedgehogs, Poppy, Willow
Year 1: Cherry, Rabbits, Snowdrop, Wrens
Year 2: Puffins, Squirrels, Sycamore
Year 3: Beech, Dolphins, Robins
Year 4: Badgers, Elm, Goldfinches
Year 5: Kingfishers, Maple, Otters
Year 6: Eagles, Oak, Wolves

Next year building work will commence to enlarge the school in order to accommodate the growing numbers.

Year 5

This blog is going to be all about Year 5 during 2009 and 2010.  Year 5 has three classes: Kingfishers are the class from the Birds group; Maple are the class from the Trees group and Otters are the class from the Mammals group. We don’t yet have a class for the Flowers group — that won’t happen until the year 2014!
